The European Union opens doors

Europe Open Doors Day Poster

On 9 May 1950, the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman called for a supranational authority to bring together the coal and steel industries of European nations as the baseline for lasting peace. The Schuman declaration led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, the forerunner of today’s European Union. May 9th has become Europe’s day and the European Commission’s emblematic Berlaymont will once again open its doors to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Shuman Declaration.

As a key service provider of the European Commission’s communication activities, PRACSIS will play a leading role in this year’s Open Doors day.  Five Directorate Generals will rely on PRACSIS to manage their participation in this important occasion: DG Agriculture, DG Environment, DG Communication DG Clima and DG ENER.

Each DG will have its own stand at the Barlaymont esplanade. PRACSIS is taking care of the design and will set up each of them according to President Junker’s five priorities: jobs, growth and investments, energy and climate, the digital single market, the EU external action and the EU and its citizens. Five priorities dressed up in five different colors will put the light on Europe’s most important topics.

For DG AGRI, PRACSIS will organize quizzes and a tasting area with many different and delicious EU- labeled quality food. DG ENER and DG CLIMA will share a stand where visitors will be able to cycle and generate electricity while discovering the EU objectives of the climate road map to 2050. For DG Communication, PRACSIS developers have prepared a touch screen game to discover some of the most important European monuments. At DG Environment stand, PRACSIS has built a four meters high map with Natura 2000, the centrepiece of EU nature & biodiversity policy.

Join the celebrations and learn more about the European Union with events and activities for all ages.
