PRACSIS takes EU food quality labels to Edinburgh
As event’s framework contractor for the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), PRACSIS assists in the development and implementation of the DG’s information and communication policy. A top DG AGRI priority is the EU agricultural product quality policy. Consumers are calling for increased public control over food products, from sanitary conditions to environmental standards in production and storage. From the production side, the standardisation of products that certify designation of origin, geographical indication, or production method is key to build reputation and sustain competitiveness and profitability. EU food quality labels are law-based certification schemes that are intended to guarantee food quality standards.
After Bruxelles-Champêtre, Tartu and Lisbon, it was Scotland’s turn to receive a visit by DG AGRI’s pavilion at the Royal Highland Show 2014. In charge of all logistical, technical and content-related tasks, PRACSIS set up a 100m2 stand with many different animations, quizzes on the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP), a colouring corner, a blender bike, and the globally renamed DG AGRI cow. PRACSIS counted on the support of SPELLBOUND PR, PRACSIS’ partnering agency and member of the EURACSIS network.
The Royal Highland Show is Scotland’s leading event for farming, food and the celebration of countryside lifestyle. DG AGRI’s stand had EU food quality labels at the centre of its exhibition. A tasting area was dressed up with diverse food products which hold EU food quality labels: Scottish Wild Salmon, Arbroath Smokies, Arbroath Smokies pâté, Jamón Serrano, Cheddar and Blue Stilton cheese among others.
It is worth highlighting that quality farming is not just a fashionable trend, as some might think: the Royal Highland Show reached its 174th edition this year!
