EU Commissioner for Environment Karmenu Vella stars at Eco-innovation Forum in Lyon

The 17th European Forum on Eco-innovation explored the dynamics of green jobs creation. More than 150 experts debated the potential of circular economy to drive businesses’ competitiveness and create employment.

Green business case studies across a wide range of sectors were presented, explored and discussed in Lyon.

A key message came out of the experts’ discussions. We need to redefine the way we think, produce and consume to create a positive environmental footprint with our activities.

New Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Karmenu Vella captivated the audience with his final speech. ‘Rather than just balanced, the three pillars of sustainability—economic, environmental and societal—need to be integrated with each other’ said Commissioner Vella, reminding the audience that the EU still imports 60% of its raw materials. ‘New economic and business models built around resource efficiency, eco-design and recycling are the way to go’.

Seventeen editions of DG Environment’s Eco-innovation forum have consolidated this event as a top reference in the field of green tech in Europe. A big part of this success is thanks to the forum’s format, designed by PRACSIS and which combines high level keynote speakers, technical expertise, case studies presentations and B2B interactive sessions which leverage partnerships and joint business ventures.
